KARACHI: National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has made news once again as its students have built Pakistan’s first electric powered formula racing car. A team of undergraduate engineering students from the Pakistan Navy Engineering College, a constituent college of NUST, presented a formula electric racing car designed and manufactured entirely in-house, in a splendid ceremony at the Pearl Continental Hotel. The students are the only team selected from Asia to participate in the FSAE Electric competition which is scheduled to be held in the UK and the US from June 15 to 18. Danial Thebo, a member of the communications and management team, said that the car was made in consideration with the rigorous standards laid out by the Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE) and is perfectly capable of competing with universities from all over the world. The team looks prepared to put up a good presentation at the international event and the students are also hopeful after spending 16 months in rigorous planning, detailed researching and meticulous manufacturing. Bank Alfalah is the sponsoring institution behind this endeavour by the NUST students. A few days ago, NUST was chosen among 150 best young universities in the world and now it is holding up the title as another team called NUST Formula Student Team is also representing Pakistan at an international design competition to be held in Germany from August 9 to 14. This competition is also part of the FSAE series.
