ISLAMABAD: Despite some deadly attacks on educational institutions in the country, several educational institutions in the federal capital still lack appropriate security arrangements unlike their claims to “improve” the security measures”. Daily Times has learnt from an available document issued by FDE in the wake of Army Public School attack which took 141 people dead mostly students, contains the various measures about up-gradation of security of its institutions in ICT. According to a brief survey conducted by Daily Times, majority of the institutions lack proper security measures. Moreover, the institutions were also found having no emergency alarm systems and trained gatekeepers and posh areas of the city like sector F-7 and sector F-6 are presenting comparatively better picture. An FDE official on anonymity disclosed that an amount of Rs 280 million was allocated for security purposes. Islamabad-Model School for Girls, G-8/1, when visited, its gatekeeper did not have metal detector whereas the school boundary wall was in very poor condition. When asked about poor security of school, the principle Shahida Tasneem says “The school not has funds and we hardly arranged the money to holding exams as 10,000 is costing on each examination”, she added. Another school in the same area, also not have more satisfactory look that could stop any unwanted incident. Islamabad Model School for Girls G-8/2 has very ugly signs of foolproof security. The school have only wall near the main gate that was too with inappropriate height, while the other three sides do not exist. Islamabad Model College for Boys G-9/1 is also mockery of security mechanism as it has no back wall and other existed parts of four-wall, were in very poor condition. College principle Abdul Jalal admitted the bad security of the college and termed it very “dangerous”. Jalal claimed that he wrote repeated times to authority concerned (FDE) on this issue but still in vain. However, the principle expressed hope for soon begin of work for up-gradation. Some institutions in rural areas including Federal Colleges for Girls and Boys Shah Allah Ditta, Federal Schools Draik Mori, Marakoo, Sangjani in sector Tarnol and Bhara Kaho were also made part of investigation found in very insecure condition. While admitting the facts, recently third time reinstated Director General FDE Shahnaz Raiz said that her repeated suspensions and restorations exercise made her unable to do proper working, adding that nobody including senior directors in the department and other officials willing to obey my any kind of orders including planning regarding foolproof security arrangements rather they use to make “influence” her from high-ups (of CADD).
