Sir: In our dearest homeland, access to safe and clean water is like a dream as we have increased the pollution ourselves through several anthropogenic activities and of which industrialization is one of the primary cause of concern. Kasur is famous for its more than 240 leather tanneries. Although these tanneries are one of the major sources of Kasur’s increasing economy yet due to lack of check and balance of effluents on the part of waste management authority, these tanneries are releasing their chromium and other metals rich effluent in the river and other water bodies nearby. These chromium rich effluents are responsible for several diseases including carcinogenic ones. Thus, through this prestigious newspaper, I would like to draw the government’s attention towards this issue that they should ask the relevant authorities to ask these leather tanneries of Kasur to treat the effluents properly and try to recycle that waste to minimize the damage.
