ISLAMABAD: Despite repeated claims, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has failed to replace the challan book with the new Electronic-Ticketing system to ease the life of citizens. The ITP had claimed to start the E-ticketing as a pilot project in Zone-1 of the federal capital that contains Koral Chowk to Secretariat, in October last year, but the project couldn’t be launched so far and this reflects the apathy of the department concerned. When contacted an official of the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) said the department was waiting for approval from the Commissioner’s Office in this regard. Soon after the approval, the project would be launched in the city as all arrangements had been completed, he said. On condition of anonymity, he said it seemed the interior ministry was unwilling to introduce the new system to relieve the public. The project was already in functional in various big cities of the country, he added. He said the new e-ticketing system is aimed at replacing the old paper challan system. So one could see the traffic police personnel with android phones to fine the violators of traffic rules, he said. The main reason behind this new practice is to facilitate the citizens and making the system more transparent. He said that according to the new system the traffic rules violators could pay their fine through easy paisa service, debit cards, credit cards besides all the 26 branches of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). He added that the video recordings of ITP officerd and violators would be made on the spot through Android phones that would also minimise the complaints of citizens against the attitude of the officers.
