LAHORE: The Punjab Rangers have foiled a bid to smuggle Indian liquor into Pakistan from Indian side at Kasur sector. “During wee hours of Saturday, the paramilitary force took action and foiled an attempt of smuggling liquor in Kasur sector,” said a statement by Rangers on Sunday. “The paramilitary troops noticed suspicious move of some individuals from Indian side. Upon challenging, the individuals instead of identifying themselves opened fire on Rangers personnel which was retailed by Rangers. However, taking advantage of darkness, smugglers managed to escape. Later the Rangers recovered 48 bottles of Indian liquor from the site of incident,” the statement added. Punjab Rangers Director General Major General Umar Farooq Burki appreciated the efforts of troops deployed along border, who thwarted smuggling of liquor.
