CHITRAL: The federal government is well aware of the problems of flood victims and will continue relief operations until their complete rehabilitation, said Amir Muqam, the prime’s minister focal person for relief activities in Chitral. Presiding over a high-level meeting to review the ongoing relief and rehabilitation activities on Monday, Amir Muqam said that every effort would be made for speedy and early rehabilitation of the flood victims. “I came here on the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who called me from London to supervise relief activities in Chitral,” he said. The prime minister, he said, was taking keen interest in developmental of Chitral and assured that all available resources would be provided to flood victims. Muqam, who is also adviser to the prime minister, said that the federal government was taking practical measures for development of Chitral and would restore electricity in flood-hit areas on priority basis. He expressed hope that people of Chitral would face this difficulty with steadfastness and patience. Referring to the Lowari tunnel project, he said that early completion of the project would change destiny of people of Chitral. “It is a lifeline project for people of Malakand division that will make a very positive impact on socio-economic conditions of people, besides expediting pace of development in northern districts of Khyber Pakhutnkhwa (KP),” he emphasised. He offered special prayers for eternal peace of departed souls of those who lost their lives during floods and early recovery of the injured. Earlier, the Chitral deputy commissioner briefed him on the ongoing relief and rehabilitation activities. He informed the focal person that a summary of Rs 50 million had been sent to the authorities concerned for construction of nine bridges and 22 roads, while the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had released Rs 10 million for the rehabilitation of the flood victims. The deputy commissioner said that 500 temporarily houses were immediately required for the flood victims, besides huge funds for restoration of water pipes, bridges, roads and others infrastructure. He lauded the efforts of Pak Army personnel, officials of district administration, NDMA and PDMA who were actively taking part in relief and rescue operations. Later, Muqam visited flood-hit Urson valley and inspected relief activities there. He directed the authorities concerned to expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts. It may be recalled that at least 29 people lost and scores of others injured due to heavy floods that hit Urson valley in Chitral on June 2.
