LAHORE: University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore has named its newly built boys hostel as ‘Abdul Sattar Edhi Hall’ while paying tribute to late Edhi, the iconic social worker. This was announced in a resolution, which was passed unanimously by the house during a meeting of all deans and heads of teaching and non-teaching departments with the university’s vice chancellor. On the occasion, the VC said that Edhi was a social icon of the era and was determined in his mission of selfless services. “His services at national and international level would always be remembered. The unparallel enthusiasm and efforts from Edhi in fulfilling his mission is an example for all to follow,” he added. During the meeting, the participants expressed sorrow and grief on the demise of Edhi and prayed for his forgiveness. Separately, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) arranged a condolence reference on Tuesday in the memory of world’s charity icon Abdul Sattar Edhi. UVAS would soon launch a welfare society for the betterment of the poor students and employees. UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the reference in which a large number of UVAS employees from various departments participated. They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and paid rich tribute to Abdul Sattar Edhi for his indiscriminate services for grieved humanity. Speaking on the occasion, Pasha said that Edhi was a great man and a torchbearer of humanity and philanthropy, following the teachings of Islam of brotherhood, tolerance, simplicity and equality. He said Edhi was a national hero who devoted his entire life to serve humanity, poor and marginalised communities. He said Abdul Sattar Edhi not only cared for the needy but also made arrangements for the treatment of sick, weak and injured animals and birds. The vacuum created by his death would never be filled, he added.
