ISLAMABAD: Negligence and silence of sports board swimming pool management as numerous people stretched to hospitals affected from different diseases by swimming in chloride pool water, people largely condemned it and demands action against the officials responsible for this episode. Responsible source told by keeping his name secret that pool income reaches almost 10 million rupees per year. No rules and regulations for pool membership, anyone can get membership card without any medical health certificate which caused major reason of spreading such diseases. Swimming pool is a place where you get different workout in one place alternative to gym. Swimming is a great healthy activity to release stress, tension, lose weight, boost your mood, and strengthen your muscles and lower diseases risk. In summer people use to swim to beat the heat. But sports board swimming pool management is playing with this healthy activity by not informing and educating the swimmers about proper swimming costumes, glasses, gloves and socks etc. Even there is no notice regarding take shower before and after swim. Sanitized pool water by chlorination resulted many serious infections. Contamination increased health risk in swimming pools such as not to take shower before and after swim. Chlorine gas used to sanitize pool water dissolved into moisture in the upper and lower airways and forms an acidic compound that irritates the lung tissue, causes swelling which lead people towards asthma, bronchitis like wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath and sometimes chest pain said Dr Waqar, sports board doctor. Exceeded quantity of chlorine other than the average proper ratio in water may cause itching, skin rashes and hair follicles, he said. He said that notifying about the membership for the swimming pool and it is complimentary to obtain health certificate, CNIC, picture and registration fee. No one knows about other swimmer may affected by the Hepatitis, TB or any other serious diseases or injuries. There is no scale to ensure about the members health. Such diseases directly effected on co-swimmers through air, breath or the pool water, he said. While talking to assistant director pool management about to ensure implementation of regulation if any, he said, “our staff is trying its level best to make sure people to take shower before swimming and at somehow we succeeded but most swimmers don’t take shower after swimming which shows their non-serious attitude”. To make sure issuance of health certificate for pool members some instructions and regulations are under consideration as well management is working to educate the swimmers regarding containments, said PSB DG.
