LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Tahirul Qadri, while talking to newsmen at the Allama Iqbal International Airport on Wednesday after arrival from the United Kingdom, said that it was hard to understand how and why the society and state institutions were tolerating corrupt, cruel and murderous rulers. The PAT chairman said that the entire world saw the live coverage of Model Town incident in which policemen were firing and killing innocent and unarmed PAT workers, but to the astonishment of the world, not a single person who fired and killed PAT workers has been arrested. “This can happen only in Pakistan and that too only under the rule of the Sharifs,” he lamented. Qadri warned the rulers that if they try to swallow this tragic event, then they would have to face the consequences and would meet such an agitation that they would forget the 2014 sit-ins. “We want and will get Qassas, and will not settle for anything less than that,” the PAT leader asserted. Recalling the incident, he said that our First Information Report was registered only after the chief of the army staff intervened, adding that we once again request the army chief to intervene and ensure that justice was served to the victims of Model Town tragedy. “When we asked the prime minister to give an account of his involvement in the Panama leaks, he fell ill and ran away to London for treatment, but at the same time he was well enough to go to Muzaffarabad and joined the celebrations of a victory which they bought,” he said, adding that all those who have taken loans and those who have got loans written off must be exposed and brought before the courts. Qadri said that such a democracy was worth trashing in which the poor, helpless and destitute were not given their basic rights and were deprived of happiness by cruel rulers, who have only one motive in their lives and that was to amass wealth for themselves and for their families. He dared PM Nawaz to call Modi and inquire about the situation in Srinagar, as they exchange greetings on a regular basis. He said at first, one section of the constitution was changed to accommodate some favourites in the Election Commission of Pakistan, but now all the sections have been changed according to the wishes of the corrupt rulers. He said without fresh legislation, new laws and election reforms, the country could not have free, fair and independent elections. The PAT chairman said we would announce our future line of action after a consultative meeting with the opposition parties on the 31st of this month, for which invitations have been sent and accepted by all the opposition political parties of the country. The PAT chairman was welcomed by thousands of workers and leaders at the airport. Those present included Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Basharat Jaspal, Noorullah Sadique, Sajid Bhatti and Jawad hamid. Flowers were showered on the chairman by party workers who raised slogan against the government and corrupt system. The PAT chairman said he was saddened to hear about the martyrdom of forces personal in Karachi, adding that the civil authorities were utilising their efforts to fail the Operation Zarb-e-Azb, forgetting that this operation has bought peace in the region. He said the credit of whatever peace we have in the country goes to the armed forces of the country and we would never let their sacrifices go to waste.
