ISLAMABAD: The planning wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is planning to allot a plot for the establishment of Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) office in vicinity of Supreme Court of Pakistan against a request made by the AGP office. In 2008, the AGP office requested the allotment of a plot nearby the SC to construct the secretariat. In response, the CDA has asked to provide the total cover area requirement for the office with use wise breakup. Responding on the CDA query, the office of AGP provides office space requirement of 30000 square feet cover area to establish the offices of AGP and law officers. The Urban Planning Section of the CDA has proposed a plot of 2222.22 square yards in the rear side of the National Library. Therefore, the case is required to be submitted before the CDA board for its final approval. Although, the authority has agreed to allot a plot to the AGP office, but the formal allotment of said plot is subject to the completion of caudal formalities by the Attorney General of Pakistan office. The civic agency has asked AGP office to submit the certificate from the Ministry of Law that weather the organization is government or private, total cover area of the project, details of funds available for the project with proof and approved copy of the PC-I of said project. The authority has also directed the AGP office to seek the approval of said plot from Prime Minister of Pakistan. A Deputy Director in the planning wing on the condition of anonymity has said; “we have prepared a summary and submitted to our higher ups; whereas, we have also asked AGP office to complete caudal formalities.” He said; “Now, the ball is in AGP office’s court that in how much time it compete all the documentation in this regard.” He further said that the authority has principally marked a piece of land for the Attorney General of Pakistan office on planning maps. Currently, office of the Attorney General for Pakistan is working in 3rd Floor of Supreme Court Building in Islamabad. The Attorney General for Pakistan is the Pakistan Government’s Chief Legal Advisor, and it primary lawyer in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Attorney General is responsible for giving advice to the Government on legal matters and to perform other duties of legal character as may be referred or assigned to him by the President. The Attorney General has the right of audience in all Courts in Pakistan as well as the right to participate in the proceedings of the Parliament, though not to vote. The Attorney General appears on behalf of Government of Pakistan in all cases including suits, appeals and other proceedings in the Supreme Court in which Government of Pakistan is concerned.
