KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department on Friday claimed to have foiled a terror bid, while apprehending three alleged terrorists including a suicide bomber in Mangopir, area of metropolis. The CTD, on a tip, raided a hideout in Mangopir area on Friday and rounded up three suspected terrorists, while recovering weapons, explosives and suicide vests from the hideout. The CTD also recovered a suicide jacket, one hand-grenade and weapons from suspects’ possession. CTD In charge Ali Raza said that the suspects were identified as Saifur Rehman, Taj Muhammad and Adil, who were affiliated with Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Swat group. The police sources informed that Taj Muhammad was recruited as a suicide bomber by TTP West commander while the terrorists were operating under the command of a militant from Punjab, Qari Samiullah. The official on condition of anonymity said that the terrorist had planned to carry a major terror act in Karachi. The suspects have been shifted to undisclosed location for further investigation. On a separate note, two extortionists including a murderer were arrested by city police on Thursday night, official sources said on Friday. Sources said that the extortionists were arrested by the Industrial Area police. According to New Karachi Industrial Area SHO Tariq Raheem, the accused Imran and Shakeel demanded extortion money from a citizen. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway. Meanwhile, the police have arrested a man involved in the murder of Syed Ali Farhan. According to reports, Faizan was arrested by Alfalah police on Thursday. Syed Ali Farhan was killed on July 27, by his own friends in Anam Homes, in the jurisdiction of Alfalah Police Station. It is pertinent to mention here that Sindh IGP AD Khawaja and Karachi police chief had taken serious notice of Farhan’s murder and had formed a committee to probe the murder under the supervision of CIA DIG Sultan Khawaja.
