ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has filed a reference with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, seeking disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan as a member of the National Assembly. MNAs Talal Chaudhry, Danyal Aziz, Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, Ch Muhammad Hamid Hameed, Nadeem Abbas, Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Shah, Muhammad Khan Daha and Main Abdul Manan submitted the reference. PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry wrote in the reference that Imran Khan “doesn’t meet the criteria set out in Articles 62 and 63” of the constitution, adding that a disqualified person had no right to sit in the assembly. He further said in the reference that Imran Khan had set up an offshore company and he did not even declare his assets. The speaker summoned the National Assembly secretary for reviewing the reference. The reference would be sent to the NA Secretariat for further action if approved. The members of delegation sought the speaker’s decision on disqualification of Imran Khan. In his remarks, the NA speaker assured the members that a decision on the reference would be made in accordance with the constitution. Later, talking to the media outside the Parliament House, Danyal Aziz said the reference was filed with all proofs and they were hopeful that the NA speaker would act on the issue according to law of the land. He said the PML-N would expose PTI chief Imran Khan’s corruption and other issues related to his moral character. Danyal Aziz said that Imran Khan always criticised every institution, adding that he was not a mature politician and always tried to blame others in politics. He said the PML-N would prove the allegations levelled against Imran Khan at all forums, especially before the nation. He said that the nation had the right to know about Imran Khan and his assets. Separately, Talal Chaudhry said that the PTI chief had accommodated those people in his party who were rejected by the nation. “The PTI is basically a gang of looters and plunderers and trying to play with the emotions of the nation at all levels”, he said. He said that the people of the country were supporting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and Azad Kashmir’s election results were its clear manifestation. Talal criticised the PTI as a party and said that a number of ‘ATM groups’ had surrounded the PTI chief. He said Imran Khan purchased a flat in London through an offshore company and did not disclose it until 2016. He said a large number of people who got loans from banks written off were sitting with the PTI head. He said that under the constitution, a reference could be filed against any MNA before the National Assembly speaker, and they had followed the law in this regard.
