Sir: It was heart-breaking to see that Pakistan’s field hockey team could not qualify for the Rio Olympics being held in Brazil. In the past, in contrast to the current situation, the hockey team won eight medals for the country. The team consistently qualified and played well in most Olympic games held between 1948 and 2012. On matters pertaining to the sport’s affairs, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is tight-lipped, which is no less than a disgrace. Therefore, I request the honourable president of Pakistan to directly intervene in the affairs of the PHF for reviving the game’s standards, as I am quite sure that there are certain reasons for the decline that can be worked on to revive the glory of hockey in Pakistan.
