ISLAMABAD: Several senior office bearers of All Pakistan Sports Board Employees Union (APSBEU) have held senior posts for a long time due to out of turn promotion doctrines. They have succeeded in clinching the higher posts by encroaching upon the promotion right of other deserving employees. On condition of anonymity, sources told Daily Times that Ghulam Rasool, chief executive of union who was appointed as carpenter in sports board now holds the post of foreman. Likewise, union president Chaudhry Muhammad Nadim, who was appointed as an electrician, is now working as sub engineer despite the fact that he does not possess any engineering degree. Muhammad Akram Bhatti, general secretary of the union has got himself transferred from stenographer to accounts department and he now holds the post of accountant in the sports board. Sources said that these office bearers of the union have got two increments in one year and they got these increments and posts by using the name of the union and pressurizing the Board’s authorities through the union. These three persons also influence the recruitment process in the board and they have had several relatives appointed in the board. Muhammad Mazhar, a retired employee of the sports board, was recruited as electrician and was retired as sub engineer. He revealed that he and union president Muhammad Nadim were promoted on the same day but his promotion was declared out of turn after four months of his retirement and AGPR started deducting 20 percent of his pension. “I am being punished for not casting a vote in favour of the union’s workers group of union,” he lamented. He went on to say that accountant Akram Bhatti, who is general secretary of the union, threatened him and issued several notices to him. Due to this, 20 percent of his pension is being deducted. “I have been denied my pension for the last two months”, he added. There is no other union in PSB and union matters are being complicated deliberately for the last two years to harvest more benefits, he stated. Muhammad Mazhar demanded of sports board authorities to take immediate notice of irregularities and take action against those found involved in these malpractices.
