LAHORE: Member Punjab Assembly Hina Parvez Butt said on Saturday that security of hospitals was now among the main priorities of PML-N government following the deadly Quetta attack. “The Punjab government, under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, has taken strict security measures for the safety of people, besides taking concrete steps to ensure foolproof security across the province,” she added. The MPA told Daily Times that the government was focusing completely on the National Action Plan (NAP), adding that only vigilant implementation of NAP could help the country mitigate threats imposed by terrorism. On a query, she said although implementation of NAP was difficult, as the institutions were not depoliticised and the country’s fragile political structure was not mature enough in taking on extremists, as evident from the Lal Masjid incident. Hina said that the Punjab government would not delay in taking action against extremists and terrorists if any strong evidence was found regarding their presence and involvement in nefarious activities in the province. “The prime minister and military leadership has set up a task force for efficient monitoring of NAP, which testifies the fact that the entire country was united against the menace that is ruining our future generations,” she added. It is pertinent to mention that MPA Hina Butt recently submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly to condemn the Quetta blast. She demanded strict measures against terrorists and their facilitators without any discrimination. “Our security and intelligence agencies need to play an extraordinary role in this regard,” she said, urging the citizens to also play a proactive role and take part in the progress and prosperity of the country. Commenting on the statement of Imran Khan that harassment of Afghan refugees must stop immediately, Hina said the PML-N government was dealing with the issue very politely but more flexibility cannot be provided to refugees, as it could prove dangerous given the prevailing circumstances. She said the PML-N government’s policy was clear from the very first day on Kashmir issue. She asked her party leadership to raise voice against Indian brutality in held Kashmir on every forum.
