LAHORE: Former Punjab governor and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar warned on Thursday that countywide protests would be launched if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government does not accept the terms of references (ToRs) to probe Panama leaks until September 3. Talking to party delegations and media persons at his office, Sarwar said corruption was the mother of all problems in Pakistan, adding that daily corruption of Rs 10 billion had hollowed the roots of the country. He said the government was not sincere to start the process of accountability, as its ToRs were like ‘The Great Wall of China’ in the way of accountability, he said, adding that the PTI would not accept pro-corruption ToRs. The rulers must end the politics of stubbornness and present themselves for accountability instead of paving obstacles in its way, he said, adding that the government was not ready to take steps against corruption despite rigorous public demand. “The government’s behaviour clearly shows that it does not want accountability but continuity of status quo,” he said. The former governor said that the Supreme Court’s decision of abolishing levy tax was laudable, as the rulers manipulate the majority in house. He expressed worries over the missing record of seven billion Pakistani nationals in the NADRA database, terming it as a manifestation of incompetence and bad governance. He also said that the real problem of the country was corruption, which should be eliminated from the country at any cost. Separately, Advisor to the PTI Chairman Dr Yasmin Rashid has hoped in a statement issued on Thursday that the Election Commission of Pakistan would not take any pressure from the government and instead holds independent inquiry against Nawaz Sharif on his disqualification reference besides deciding the matter on merit.
