KARACHI: Confronting the storm of criticism of corruption, mismanagement, bad-governance and worst law and order situation from every nook and corner of Sindh, the Pakistan People;s Party (PPP) leadership has started making efforts towards improving its image and reputation. Succession of Murad Ali Shah following Qaim Ali Shah as the Sindh chief minister is a swift move in this regard. The new Sindh CM while working on the agenda had a meeting with a group of intellectuals and writers of Sindh and sought their suggestions to improve governance in the province. However, this meeting initiated new debate on the social media. Several people have criticised the move terming the writers and intellectuals that were in the meeting as ‘Darbaari’, also viewing that no change has taken place and the current shake –up in the set-up is just to tie all political stakeholders in one knot so that the PPP can win next general elections in Sindh. One of the critics, Manzoor Solangi, a renowned writer and intellectual and a member of Sindh Writers and Thinkers Forum, analysed that Murad Ali Shah “excels in art of appeasing Zardari”. He had managed to appease his bitter opponent Syed Jalal Mahmood Shah, Sindh United Party (SUP) chairman, during his (Murad’s) election by getting withdrawn Roshan Buriro, SUP’s candidate from PS-74 Jamshoro-Sehwan. “ The PPP has arranged entry of all ‘Electables’ like Ghaus Bux Mahar, Imtiaz Shaikh, Jatois of National Peoples Party (NPP), Shirazi brothers of Thatta and others in the party so that no one opposes it in next elections,” said Solangi. He said that offers through Sardar Shah, the Sindh minister for culture, are already being made to lure writers and intellectuals through posts in Sindhi Adabi Board, Sindhi Language Authority and Sindhiology Institute so that next elections could be won easily. A journalist, Imdad Soomro, is of the view that this is the double standard of the so-called writers and intellectuals. “On one hand they consider Asif Zardari responsible for whole miseries of Sindh but on the other hope that Murad Shah can do better for Sindh.” Talking to Daily Times, Muzaffar Chandio, a political activist and intellectual, said, “One is grossly mistaken if he thinks that the PPP leadership wants a positive change in Sindh. One is befooling himself if he views Murad Ali Shah as an ambassador of change.” To seek views in this regard, PPP’s CEC member and provincial Advisor for Information Maula Bux Chandio was contacted many times but his cell phone remain unattended.
