KOHAT: As the officials of the Kohat Police briefed the District Council Kohat about the performance, the elected representatives expressed satisfaction over reforms introduced in the force over the last several years. The council was given an overview of the law and order, and security situation of the district. The district members were also briefed about the actions taken by the police to control crime. The progress made by the district police under National Action Plan and the recently enacted provincial counter-terrorism laws was also shared with council members. District Police Officer Mohammad Sohaib Ashraf informed the councillors about the strategic initiatives and institutional reforms undertaken in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police for capacity building, community engagement and enhanced service delivery during the past two years. The official also briefed the council about the salient features and provisions of the recently enacted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Ordinance 2016. The council members were informed that the new law has brought about a paradigm shift in the police administration by entrusting the external accountability of the police to public bodies. The role and responsibilities of local government representatives in the new police law were also explained. The district council welcomed the initiative taken by the district police for briefing the house on the law and order situation. Narcotics seized in Jamrud: The personnel of Khyber Rifles on Friday foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of narcotics, which were being smuggled from Tirah valley, an official said.
