India on Saturday decided to suspend movements of all types of passengers through the international border with Pakistan from March 15 midnight. According to a notification from the Indian Union Home Ministry, all types of passenger movement will suspend to curb the coronavirus outbreak. “All types of passenger movements through all the immigration land check posts located India-Bangladesh, India-Nepal, India-Bhutan and India-Myanmar borders will be suspended with effect from 00:00 hours on March 15. India and Pakistan have one land crossing at Attari-Wagah besides the Kartarpur crossing. On Saturday, Indian officials had said that New Delhi would close 18 of 37 border crossing points between India and countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Myanmar. It would come into effect from midnight Sunday. The move was aimed at channelling movement through those checkpoints with adequate facilities to detect incidence of SARS-CoV2 infections, they said at a briefing on measures to tackle the outbreak of the disease in New Delhi. Visa-free entry for nationals of Bhutan and Bangladesh would however continue, they said. However, diplomats and UN personnel having valid visas may be allowed through the Attari crossing point along the India-Pakistan border. Visit to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur has also been suspended for Sikh pilgrims under the new order. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan on Friday closed the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib for its nationals but did not stop pilgrims from Indian side.
