ISLAMABAD: Civil and military leadership on Friday reiterated their commitment to take the war on terror to its logical end and urged the international community to recognise the role and sacrifices of Pakistan instead of saying “do more”. Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House. They discussed matters related to national and regional security. They also discussed Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s visit to India and his statements. They made it clear that Pakistan is aware of all developments happening in neighbouring countries and all steps would be taken to safeguard the country’s security, sources told Daily Times. According to the PM’s House spokesman, matters pertaining to internal and regional security were discussed in the meeting. Vowing to continue the war on militancy and terror, Nawaz expressed his satisfaction over the country’s overall security situation, the spokesman added. On the other hand, sources said that the meeting decided that the Kashmir issue would be raised in the UN General Assembly and Indian atrocities would be highlighted in front of the international community. The top general briefed Nawaz about the progress and development on the National Action Plan and Operation Zarb-e-Azb. The general also told the PM that intelligence and security agencies have foiled various terrorist attempts during Eid, adding that in combing and intelligence-based operations several terrorists have been arrested and these operations would continue without discrimination, sources said. Nawaz acknowledged the role and sacrifices of the armed forces in the war on terror. Sources quoted him as saying, “Our successes in this war will be part of my address during UN General Assembly.” Sources said they were of the view that now it is the responsibility of international community to do more for Pakistan’s economic development. Both leaders reaffirmed that CPEC would be completed at all cost and enemies of this project would not be succeeded in their efforts, sources concluded.
