With approaching of Senior School Certificate (SSC) examination, sale of pocket guides has increased manifolds in Landi Kotal. Number of 9th and 10th students can be witnessed buying pocket guides in books shops of Land Kotal to be utilized as cheating material in the exam to be scheduled on 14thMarch, 2020. Is to be mentioned here that last year the local administration had launched drive against the guides to discourage cheating culture in SSC exam however this year they also turned blind eyes towards the curse. There are more than a dozen shops that deal in books and stationary and maximum of them engage in sale of pocket guides. One of a book seller, Zahid Shinwari said that most of the shopkeepers supplied them the guides by the name of scholar guides and students of government as well as private schools bought the guides before start of the examination. On a query he added that although it was a malpractice but on demand of the buyers they supplied it, adding scores of private students and those who wanted to get pass in good grade were among the buyers of the pocket guides. Hazrat Bilal, a father of student said that the school administration instead of imparting quality education to students persuaded them to adopt unfair means to get pass in the exam. “The public school managements encourage their students in SSC exam for cheating to get better results of the schools”, he blamed. He also criticized the officials of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education(BISP)Peshawar for neglecting its duty and said professional examiners were repeatedly deployed at exam centers in Landi Kotal who let the students to cheat in return of huge income. He added that it was joint responsibility of parents, teachers and the administration to adopt all needed measures to get rid off of the curse and to save future of the students from decaying. A private school administrative, Abdurraziq in his version on the issue he said that a student who got 40% marks by his own talent was much better of A plus position holder that had used unfair means. He added that permitting cheating in exam not only disheartened talented students but also diverted attention of minor students from struggle towards shortcuts and that was the reason that maximum position holders in SSC examination produced worse result in pre-medical and pre-engineering entry tests. When the matter was brought in the notice of assistant commissioner, Landi Kotal Muhammad Imran Yousafzai he said that it was serious issue that should be addressed collectively, adding students should study their own books and notes instead of making use of cheating materials. “We will not let anyone to decay future of our children by engaging them in cheating like unfair acts”, he remarked. They would launch a massive operation against the selling of pocket guides and with approval of deputy commissioner, Khyber; they would impose section 144 on selling of the cheating materials. He urged every segment of the society to join hand with to root out the curse from the society.
