ISLAMABAD: Banks, financial institutions and bureaucracy were under fire on Tuesday in a meeting of the National Assembly standing committee for privilege, rules and procedure as members criticised banks for not granting loans cards while harsh words were exchanged between PTI leader Shreen Mazari and Additional Secretary Water and Power Umer Rasool on disconnecting the PTI MNAs power connection. The NA privilege committee convened in a meeting chaired by Junaid Anwaar Chaudhry here at Parliament House and sought details of parliamentarians and grade 22 bureaucrats that were refused loans and credit cards in the next meeting. On the question of privileges raised by Mr Ghulam Sarwar Khan and Ms Shazia Marri, the Committee expressed its displeasure on the policies of banks for not issuing credit cards and loans to the parliamentarians and directed the Secretary M/o Finance and Governor, State Bank of Pakistan to submit a report of the cases relating to the rejections of applications of credit cards/loans to the Hon. Parliamentarians, civil servants and Lt. Generals within fifteen days. The committee expressed displeasure on the role of Worker’s Welfare Fund Secretary Mr. Qasim Khan, and directed him to give a detailed report on the issue to the committee in its next meeting. The committee also said the Secretary M/o Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development should attend the next meeting. MNA Shireen Mazari, the Hon. Chairman of Privilege Committee expunged the un-parliamentary language used by the Hon. Mover against the Additional Secretary, M/o, Water & Power/Managing Director (PEPCO) and directed the Secretary of Water and Power to ensure his attendance in the next meeting of the committee in person. The Committee also expressed its displeasure against the attitude of Addl. Secretary/M.D (PEPCO) for leaving the Committee Room during the course of discussion of the said agenda item. MNA Ayesha Gulalai directed the D.G FIA to trace those people who gave false information against the Honourable parliamentarians and take action against them and report to the committee within thirty days. The Committee directed the CEO, PIAC to provide the video recording pertaining to the issue of theft of valuable things of the Member in its next meeting of the Committee.
