Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Hakimullah Mehsud group has selected their new leader following the killing of its chief Sheheryar Mehsud in a remote-controlled blast in northern Afghanistan. Nusrat-Ullah Nusrat, spokesperson for the banned TTP Hakimullah Mehsud group in a statement, said that Maulana Wali Muhammad Umari has been appointed as the new chief of the group. Tehrik Taliban Pakistan, alternatively referred to as the Taliban, is a radical terrorist armed group which is an umbrella organization of various militant groups based along the Afghan–Pakistani border. The TTP’s aim is to overthrow the government of Pakistan by waging a terrorist campaign against the Pakistan armed forces and the state. TTP depends on the tribal belt along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border from which to draw its recruits. The TTP draws ideological guidance from al-Qaeda and maintains ties with al-Qaeda. Wali Muhammad Umari, 40, was one of the first ones to join the TTP belongs to the Wazirgai tribe of Umarzay village-North Waziristan. . Moreover, he has been one of the most trusted associates of Baitullah Mehsud, Hakimullah Mehsud, and Wali-ur-Rehman Mehsud. Wali previously served as a chief of Fidaai Wing (Suicide Bomber Wing) of TTP. When differences emerged between Hakimullah Mehsud and Khan Said Sajna, Wali chose to join the TTP Hakimullah group.
