ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency, Faisalabad police and intelligence officials on Saturday raided an illegal gateway exchange and arrested one accused behind making threatening calls to media houses. Sources told Daily Times that the illegal gateway exchange was established in a private housing society in Rawalpindi. A report has been sent to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in this regard. The report reads that a successful raid against an illegal VOIP gateway setup was conducted and 15 VOIP gateways and 1,800 Ufone SIMs were seized. Accused Rabia Khan is arrested while her accomplices Waqas, Usman and Bilal are on the run. Ufone and its franchise would be questioned for such a failure in SOPs that allowed these Sims to be misused, the report read. Security officials are interrogating the culprit but security sources said that some influential people were trying to pressure them. Sources added that people with political backing are involved in this crime. The equipment has been seized by the intelligence officials. Threatening calls were made to some TV anchors from this gateway, sources said. Some politicians are trying to influence the interrogation, but Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has ordered the departments concerned to put behind bars the real culprits, sources concluded.
