KARACHI: China remained the biggest investor in Pakistan with the investment of $920.4 million made during the eleven months of current fiscal year, 11MFY17, July 2016-May 2017. The contribution of China in Foreign Direct Investment FDI increased the overall investment to increase by 22.6 percent during July-May 2017 period as compared to the same period of last fiscal year, 11MFY16. The total investment including portfolio stood at $2,643.9 million as compared to the $1,254.0 million of the previous year. According to the data released by State Bank of Pakistandata, the Netherlands remained the second largest investor with net investment of $ 479.3 million. France was the third big investor with $180.5 million whileTurkey, United States, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom invested $ 138.6 million, $ 109.6 million and $ 51.9 million, $52.3 million respectively. During the 11MFY17 outflows of around $370.4 million were recorded as compared to $815 million recorded previous year, SBP data shows. The portfolio investment also increased by massive 5,420.9 percent to $1,027.2 million during the period under review. The total foreign investment increased by 110.8 percent or $1,389.9 million to $2,643.9 million as compared to $1,254 million of 11MFY16. Published in Daily Times, June 22nd, 2017.
