ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) will decide the fate of four additional judges of Peshawar High Court (PHC) on October 17 in its meeting, sources confirmed to Daily Times. The four additional judges include Justice Younis Thaheem, Justice Qalandar Ali Khan, Justice Ghazanfar Khan and Justice Haider Ali Khan. The four judges were elevated to the PHC bench as additional judges on November 10, 2014. Likewise, one-year extension was granted to them in 2015. The ‘confirmation or otherwise’ of the judges is on the agenda of the JCP meeting which is scheduled to be held on October 17, sources said. Tenure of Justice Thaheem would be completed in 2018, Justice Ghazanfar and Justice Qalandar would retire in 2019 and Justice Haider’s retirement year is 2026, however, they would no more be holding the seats in the PHC in case the confirmation is not made. Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali will chair the JCP meeting wherein the commission would also consider the confirmation of four additional judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC). The four additional judges of LHC include Justice Khalid Mahmood Malik, Mushtaq Ahmad, Masood Abid Naqvi and Chaudhry Iqbal, sources said further. They added that the commission in the same meeting would also consider 14 names for appointment in the LHC as additional judges. Those 14 include six district and sessions judges and 10 lawyers. The six district and sessions judges include Sohail Nasir, Abdul Sattar, Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad, Habibullah Amir, Mujahid Mustaqim Ahmad and Abid Hussain Quraishi. Similarly, the 10 lawyers include Asjad Javed Goraal, Tariq Saleem Sheikh, Bashir Paracha, Ahmad Raza Gilani, Jawwad Hassan, Akhtar Bashir, Mudhasir Khalid Abbasi, Abdul Rehman Aurangzeb, Agha Ali Khan and Chaudhry Abdul Aziz. Currently, 46 judges are sitting in the LHC while total strength of LHC judges is 60. The commission would also consider one nomination for appointment in Balochistan High Court as an additional judge, sources said.
