RAWALPINDI: A scam of renting out residential flats of the Town Municipal Administration (TMA), Rawal Town Rawalpindi, to a private boys hostel in connivance with corrupt officials has been unearthed. A decision has been taken to cancel the allotments given to the allottees of these residences, who are sub engineers besides recovering the house rents from their salaries, from the date of allotment of these residences. According to sources, under Order No 394, Flat No. 7-B was allotted to sub engineer Muhammad Bashir Samore on October 23, 2012 in TMA Nursery Fire Brigade office commercial market and Flat No. 8-B was allotted to sub engineer Khalid Mehmood Kamal for residential purposes. But they illegally rented out these flats to college students. A special team of the TMA conducted a checking of these flats and found the college students were residing therein. When they were inquired about their settlement in these flats they said that they had acquired these quarters on rent. The information about running the boys hostel illegally in these flats was sent to the TMO Rawalpindi and the ADCG. They issued directives for the immediate cancellation of the allotment of these flats to two sub engineers and deduction of house rents from their salaries from the date of allotment of these flats. However the matter of deduction of house rents from the salaries is still pending. Sources told Daily Times that both the sub engineers are locals and permanent residents of Rawalpindi and they are owning homes in Rawalpindi. These sub engineers were not entitled to be allotted these flats as per TMA rules because these flats are meant for those employees of Grade-16 who are performing duty in the TMA Rawal Town and had no residence. The sources have claimed that most of the residential flats of the TMA had not only been allotted illegally to unauthorised persons but they had sub let these residences. Sources disclosed that the TMA or the state officer are maintaining no record of the flats owned by the TMA. However, the DCO Rawalpindi, has sought a detailed report about the residential quarters and flats owned by the TMA and directed that the details of allotment of these residences be also furnished to him.
