ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers on Wednesday backed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and urged the government and security agencies to flush out elements trying to sabotage this game changer. The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence was briefed about the role of Pakistan Navy in the security of CPEC. The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Rohail Asghar. The committee visited Naval Base, Gwadar. The committee was briefed about the role, activities and challenges of the Pakistan Navy in details. The committee was also informed that the role and responsibilities of the Pakistan Navy have been increased in regard to the CPEC. The NA body also witnessed the exercise of Pakistan Navy’s Zulfiqar warship in the sea. The committee praised the operational preparedness of the PN. The committee also visited the Gwadar Port Authority where the members were briefed on the progress of the port. The meeting was attended by the committee members Dr Fehmida Mirza, Sardar Shafqat Hayat Khan, Lt Col (r) Ghulam Rasul Sahi, Saeed Ahmed Khan Manais, Nawab Ali Wassan, Amir Dogar and Sheikh Fayazuddin and officials of the Defence Ministry.
