LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday categorically ensured that the government would not arrest its political opponent and cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, but warned that it would not give him permission to shutdown the capital of Pakistan. Talking to media outside the Punjab Assembly before joining the session on Thursday, he said that his government would not detain the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman even for only 24 hours, citing his addiction to an abusive drug, ‘heroin’. Sanaullah said since a notice from the Supreme Court of Pakistan was issued to the prime minister, there was no justification to close Islamabad on Panama leaks issue. The law minister said he was convinced that Awami Muslim League Chairman Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, the only ally of Imran Khan on the issue, wanted to see some dead bodies by encouraging the youth to disrupt peace. “In any country, if a party talked about closing the capital city, the leadership of that party would have been sent to a mental hospital. All corrupts will gather under one umbrella to cause anarchy and unrest in the country,” he added while criticising PTI. Later, he joined the Punjab Assembly session, which started one hour and 35 minutes late to its schedule time under the chair of Speaker Rana Iqbal. The opposition parties staged a walkout from the assembly on the Panama leaks issue, besides pointing lack of quorum. Unfortunately, the treasury benches, beside their best efforts to complete the required numbers of the legislators of their side, failed to run the business of the assembly, while the speaker adjourned the session for today (Friday). Earlier, Opposition Leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, on a point of order, said that the nation was ready to go to Islamabad and the government would get a proper response from the PTI protesters in the capital city if it would try to create any hindrance in the way of protesters. The opposition leader said that after issuance of notice to PM Nawaz Sharif from Supreme Court, it had now been proved that Nawaz Sharif was guilty, adding that the PM should present himself for accountability, which is also the demand of the nation. Later, he provoked his colleagues sitting on the joint opposition benches to protest against the government. The opposition benches started chanting slogans like “Go Nawaz Go”, besides terming him a thief of national wealth. In response, only five women of the treasury benches stood on their seats and chanted slogans against Imran Khan, terming the PTI leadership members of the “Jewish Lobby”.
