ISLAMABAD: Zahed Mohamed of Egypt defeated his compatriot Omar Abdel Meguid in the final of the Chief of the Naval Staff International Squash Championship at the Mushaf Squash Complex here on Saturday. The first game witnessed some fierce contest for supremacy between world number 30 Zahed and world number 28 Meguid. Both players showed their top performance and fought neck and neck. The former however managed to win the game 12-10. Spectators were expecting that Meguid, who was the top seed, would make a comeback in the second game but he could not live up to the expectations as Zahed once again proved his mettle, winning it 11-9. Luck did not favour Meguid even in the third game as his muscle pulled when the score was 6-3 and he had to quit the match. Thus, Zahed was declared the winner. The match lasted for 36 minutes. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Zakaullah graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and awarded trophies and prizes to the winner and runners-up of the championship. Pakistan Squash Federation president Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, retired AVM Razi Nawab, PSF senior vice-president Commodore Khalid Pervez, squash legends Qamar Zaman and Jahangir Khan also attended the ceremony along with civil and military dignitaries, and sport lovers.
