SWABI: A policeman was martyred and another injured in an exchange of fire between police and terrorists in Swabi, which left one terrorist dead while another blew himself up late Saturday night, officials said. According to District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi Javed Iqbal, the terrorists targeted a police mobile in Swabi’s Minai area on Saturday night and fled.They were chased down and the ensuing exchange of fire left one of the perpetrators dead.Policeman Shah Fahad was martyred in the gun-battle. Another terrorist blew himself up during the gun battle, while one of their accomplices managed to get away, the police official said. The blast resulted in a fire inside a shop in which the miscreants had taken refuge.Police freed four people, including a minor, who were taken hostage by the terrorists. Police also recovered a Kalashnikov, two hand grenades and ammunition scattered around the deceased. Driver dies as tractor-trolley falls into ravine in Diamer: driver died after a tractor trolley skidded off road and plunged into a gorge here on Sunday morning. Rescue sources said that a reckless driven tractor trolley got out of control of the driver and it fell into a deep ravine at Bisco Mall in Tangir area of district Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). The dwellers of the area and rescue personnel through joint efforts pulled out the body from the gorge and shifted it to hospital where it was handed over to heirs after postmortem. Drug peddler held with 120kg of hashish in Charsadda: The police arrested a drug peddler after recovery of three maunds of hashish from a vehicle here on Sunday. Police said that it stopped a suspected vehicle near Sardariab check post in district Charsadda. During search of the vehicle, 120 kilogram hashish packed in bags and hidden under other goods was recovered. The police confiscated the recovered hashish, arrested the drug peddler on board and after registering a case against him started an investigation.
