The Journalist Community of Multan staged a protest demonstration in front of Multan Press Club against non-provision of College Teacher Internee’s (CTI) seats for the subject of journalism in all colleges of Southern Punjab, on Tuesday. A large number of journalism students also joined the journalist community in this protest. The Community College Program was started as a pilot project in four colleges of Punjab in 2016, said Multan Union of Journalists President Shahadat Hussain. Only one college of South Punjab, The Government Post Graduate College Civil Lines, was also among those four colleges that were allowed to run the pilot project, he said. This Community College Program offers a 2 year degree with four semesters and is a replacement of Bachelors of Arts (BA) and Bachelors of Science (BSC). The program was launched by the Punjab Higher Education Department (PHED) with the collaboration of Higher Education Department (HEC). Three subjects mainly Journalism, Information Technology (IT) and Commerce were chosen in the pilot project, Hussain said. The aim of this program was to prepare professionals in the said fields, he added. There is already a paucity of faculty of journalism in colleges and no CTI’s seats were given in the only college of Multan which is offering journalism, the president said.
