LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has announced three days of mourning over the sad demise of its senior leader Dr Jehangir Bader. In their condolence messages, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq and Dr Farooq Sattar expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Jehangir Bader and paid rich tribute to him. Meanwhile, prominent parliamentarians, politicians, PPP workers and people from different walks of life participated in his funeral procession at the Punjab University Law College Ground on Monday. Former prime ministers Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, parliamentarians Aitzaz Ahsan, Khursheed Shah, Taj Haider, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Qaim Ali Shah, Nafeesa Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Zaka Ashraf, Ch Ghulam Abbas, Manzoor Wassan, Shehryar Taseer, Munawar Anjum, Malik Raiz, Nadeem Chann, Shaukat Basra, Sohail Malik, Faisal Mir, Zamurd Khan, Azizur Rehman Chann, Naveed Chaudhry, Tasneem Qureshi, Manzoor Wattoo, Mian Misbahur Rehman, Shahan Malik, Napoleon Qayyum, Naveed Alam, Asher Waseem, Tasleem Chaudhry, and Babar Butt also attend his last rituals. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Sharif family’s member Sohail Zia Butt, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former foreign minister Khursheed Kasuri, former governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and MPA Mian Aslam Iqbal also participated in the funeral procession. Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran and renowned religious scholar Tariq Jamil were also among the participants. Badar was born in Lahore in 1944 and served the nation as an elected senator and federal minister during the PPP governments in 2009 and 1988, respectively. He had also served the party as central secretary general and faced hard punishments during the General Zia’s regime but continued struggle for restoration of democracy in Pakistan. He was a diehard supporter of ‘Bhuttoism’ who remained loyal to his party and played a vital role in the Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD).
