LAHORE: The three-day anti-polio drive has kicked off in all 274 union councils (UCs) of the provincial capital on Wednesday, as part of the Sub-National Immunisation Day. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Captain (r) Muhammad Usman inaugurated the campaign and administered polio drops to children in the area of Allama Iqbal Road, Garhi Shahu. As many as 4,300 polio teams are participating in the polio drive, administering polio drops to under five years of age children. District administration has set a target to administer polio drops to 1,694,000 children. Polio administering teams have been designed into three categories, including mobile, fixed and a transit team. All these teams would perform their duties by visiting door-to-door and in all hospitals, including district headquarter hospitals and basic health units, to administer polio drops. On the direction of DCO Lahore, town administrations were personally monitoring the performance of polio workers in their respective area. Meanwhile, the district administration has also taken an initiative to ensure active participation of citizens for which the staff were announcing on loud speakers. DCO Usman said that teams are in field and proper security measures have been taken for their protection to avoid any untoward incident. He requested the citizens to cooperate with polio teams and in case of any complaint, inform on their help line. The three-day anti-polio drive would conclude tomorrow.
