PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday stayed the federal government’s decision of deporting teachers of Pak-Turk International Schools after the students and teachers filed a writ petition. The petitioners argued that the federal government had refused to extend visas to the Turkish teachers and they were told to leave the country by November 14. The teachers had also claimed that they were not informed prior to the decision. Similarly, the students had argued that since their academic year would be completed in March, they feared their studies would be affected if the teachers left the country before that. However, the representatives of the federal government argued that the teachers had been informed in advance about the decision. PHC judges Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Ikramullah Khan heard the petition and sought a reply from the government. The court also stayed the government’s decision until December 1.
