CHAKWAL: Hundreds of people besieged and attacked an Ahmadi place of worship in Chakwal district of Punjab before police intervened and dispersed the agitated mob on Monday. The mob violence took place in the limits of the Chowas Saidan Shah police station area in Chakwal’s Dhalmial district. Saleem ud Din, a spokesman of Jamaat Ahmadiyaa Pakistan, tweeted, Nearly 1000 persons have attacked our Baitulzikar in Dolmial, district Chakwal. A 65 year old Ahmadi inside Baitulzikar died during this attack due to heart failure — Saleem ud Din (@SaleemudDinAA) December 12, 2016 The Government of Punjab said it was “following up” on the Chakwal incident. “Punjab Home Department is following up Chakwal incident. The local admin and police are at the spot and handling the situation,” a statement said. It said that a misunderstanding developed between the two groups, but Home Department was vigilantly following up the issue. The police and administration are making all out efforts to resolve the issue amicably. “Punjab Government believes in fair application of law irrespective of any discrimination of caste, creed and color. All the citizens are bound by law and no one would be allowed to violate it.”
