Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday directed a report from Sindh Rangers Director General (DG); Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Interior Ministry Secretary with regard to over 100 missing persons. Heading a two-member SHC bench, Justice Naimtullah Phulputo heard a set of petitions filed by families of more than 100 missing persons for their safe recovery. The families cried of their plight before the bench and urged the court for the recovery of their beloved ones. The court was informed by a mother of the missing man, Jameel, that policemen Jan Muhammad and Raja Tariq were involved in her son’s disappearance. ”Both policemen demanded Rs 50,000 for the recovery of her son,” she added. Hearing this, the bench ordered Karachi police chief to conduct an investigation into both policemen. Crying before the bench, wife of another missing citizen stated, ”Third Eid has come, but my husband could not be recovered. I will commit suicide if my husband is not recovered.” She cautioned, “My parents have also fed up with feeding me and my daughter. I will burn myself if my husband is not recovered.” Justice Phulputo responded, ”Do not be depressed; your husband will return soon as now, missing persons are returning to their homes.” The court claimed that it had received a report on Wednesday that some missing persons were likely to return to their homes. However, Justice Phulputo could not be satisfied by this and he lashed out at Investigation Officer (IO) of the cases. He remarked that what progress had the officer achieved in the investigation? The bench asserted, ”You bring same reports in every hearing, but families of missing persons are worrying.” Advocate Aslam Javed then asked the court to direct authorities to pay the families of missing persons Rs 50,000 to feed their children. He told the court that supposedly, missing persons, Nasir, Faiz and Muaaz were in detention centres of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The counsel added, ”If suspects could be brought through Interpol from foreign countries then why those suspects are not brought from one to another province.” The relevant authorities were also directed to submit an updated report with reference to the recovery of missing persons until August 22. The case was then adjourned till August 22.
