Dr Salman Shah has been appointed by the government of Punjab as an adviser on economic affairs and planning to Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar. After the resignation of Akram Chaudhry from his post, Salman Shah was appointed as the adviser. Chaudhry also excused himself from taking the post of Chairman of Food Authority. Chief Minister Buzdar has directed the economist to assume responsibilities immediately and the notification for Shah’s appointment has been issued. From 2004-2008, former prime minister Shaukat Aziz appointed Dr Salman as his adviser along with the position of federal minister during the Musharraf regime. His appointment follows that of Abdul Hazeez Sheikh as Prime Minister Imran Khan’s adviser on finance after Asad Umar stepped down as finance minister.
