Sindh High Court (SHC), on Tuesday, heard petition filed by former minister for ports and shipping, Kamran Michael, against his arrest. A bench led by the Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh took the plea. Soon after the hearing started, the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) prosecutor pleaded the court to defer the hearing until the holy month of Ramazan passes. He added, “The bureau has sought details of some of the bank accounts of the accused, which may take time.” To this, the CJ replied, “You would soon come to know, how difficult it is to live in Jail if you had to live there for a week.” The hearing was adjourned till May 21. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader is accused of illegally allotting three commercial and residential apartment plots at the prime locations of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Cooperative Housing Society as personal favours. Michael had held the portfolio of the minister for ports and shipping between 2013 and 2016. He held several cabinet posts during different governments. In January 2018, the NAB Chairman had ordered an inquiry against Michael for the alleged misuse of authority.
