Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf said that the former army chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif influenced the government that helped him leave the country for medical treatment. On being asked whether General Raheel ‘saved’ him, Musharraf said, “Well he definitely helped me and I am grateful of his favour, I have been his boss and have been the army chief too.” He further said that the government had put me on the Exit Control List (ECL) and had made a political issue out of nowhere. On being asked that how General Raheel had helped him leave the country, Musharraf claimed that he did so by influencing the courts indirectly. The former president further added that Gen Raheel helped him by dealing with the government to release the pressure on courts. “Once the pressure was removed, I was allowed to travel abroad for treatment,” Musharraf added. The former president slammed the judiciary system of Pakistan and said that it is unfortunate that our courts work behind the scenes and give decisions. It is pertinent to mention that Musharraf flew to Dubai on March 18 after the federal government removed his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) following a Supreme Court order.
