KARACHI: The administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts has sent Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s London leaders Professor Hassan Zafar Arif and Amjadullah Khan to prison on judicial remand till Jan 3. Dr Hassan and Amjadullah were arrested shortly after their release from Karachi Central Prison on Tuesday and booked in a criminal case for allegedly instigating people to anti-state activities and listening to hate speech. The investigation officer produced the suspects before the administrative judge to seek their physical remand for interrogation. While declining his request, the court sent both the suspects to prison on judicial remand and directed the IO to submit charge-sheet at the next hearing. Dr Hassan and Amjadullah were arrested from outside Karachi Press Club and detained for 30 days under the maintenance public order issued on October 2nd , this year. Before the completion of their detention period on November 22nd , the home secretary on the recommendation of the law enforcement agencies issued another order on November 17th , extending their detention for another 30 days. Azizabad police had registered a case against MQM founder Altaf Hussain, Farooq Sattar, Professor Hasan, Amjadullah and others for allegedly instigating their workers to act against the state and demand extortion from businessmen. According to the FIR registered on the complaint of the Rangers, the party leaders provoked their workers against ex DG Rangers Sindh and other officers of the law enforcement agencies who were leading Karachi operation. Qamar Mansoor, Ameen-ul-Huq, Izhar Ahmed Khan Sathi Ishaq, Mehfooz Yar Khan, Shahid Pasha and other leaders have also been nominated in the FIR.
