RAWALPINDI: Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Shairf has given approval for construction of Chaklala Sports Complex with the cost of Rs 190.379 million, covering 50 Kannals of land. The proposed complex would be the third sporting facility for Rawalpindi city after Liaquat Bagh Mini Sports Complex, which was inaugurated by former President Zia-ul-Haq in 1988 and Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex that was opened by the incumbent CM himself in 2013. Chaklala Sports Complex would be state of art project which would provide the facility of Boxing, Badminton , Karate , Table Tennis, Squash and other indoor sports . The complex will not only provide the facility to youth players of the city to polish their talent of sports and to develop their mental and physical strength through games, but also give an opportunity to sports lovers to watch sports in the high-quality atmosphere . In this connection District Sports Officer Rawalpindi told this scribe that for the development of indoor sports ,the DG Sports Punjab had forwarded the summary to Chief Minister Punjab , which was approved by CM. He said that the facility of trained sports instructors and quality sports goods would also be available in the new sports complex. It is pertinent to mention here that last month DG Sports Punjab Zulfiqar Ghumman along with former skipper of Pakistan Cricket Team Zaheer Abbas had inaugurated, Zaheer Abbas Cricket Academy at Rawalpindi. On the occasion he issued directive to district authorities to take immediate action to remove the shortage of playgrounds in the city. The installation process of Astroturf in two hockey grounds including Saidpur Road Stadium and Viqar-un-Nisa College’s ground is at its last stage, while District Sports Officer has also sent the proposal to set up Astroturf in more grounds in the city included hockey ground of Gordon College.
