A roof collapse due to downpour killed at least three people, including two minor girls, on Monday in Karbogha Sharif, Hangu. According to details, rescue teams soon reached the location and shifted the victims to the hospital for medical assistance. Meanwhile, widespread rainfall, on Monday, inundated parts of Balochistan as authorities issued flood warnings at Quetta, Zhob, Sibi, Kalat, Makran and Nasirabad. Locals are being advised to not go near waterways as a fresh westerly wave has hit Balochistan. It is likely to persist over upper parts of the country till Monday night. Islamabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Peshawar and other cities once again geared for chilly weather after rain while drizzling were also reported in Sindh. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) expected widespread rain/thunderstorm (with isolated heavy falls) along with gusty winds (snowfall over hills) on Monday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad divisions in Upper Punjab; Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Cold and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country. It has also warned of heavy rain triggering landslides in Malakand, Hazara divisions, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir. During the last 24 hours, rainfall was reported in Quetta, Sibbi, Kalat, Barkhan, Panjgur, Zhob, Ormara and Lasbella in Balochistan while trace rainfall was reported in Sibbi. PMD also noted rainfall in Jaccobabad and Moen-Jo-Daro in Sindh where Karachi only received scanty showers. Trace rainfall was also reported in D.G Khan in Punjab. Low temperatures prevailed in Skardu, Drosh, Malamjabba, Parachinar, Gupis, Hunza, Astore and Kalam while a below freezing -080C was reported in Bagrote. Published in Daily Times, March 12th 2019.
