ISLAMABAD: Former President Asif Ali Zardari expressed profound grief and sorrow over the passing away of renowned lawyer and former advocate general Sindh Abdul Hafeez Lakho, who died in Karachi on Saturday morning. Abdul Hafeez Lakho served as a counsel of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) founder and former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in the politically motivated murder case registered by the then military dictatorship. In his condolence message, the former President said that Lakho was not only an outstanding lawyer but also a committed democrat, who suffered hardships and endured imprisonment during the MRD movement in early 80’s. Zardari further said that in addition to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Lakho also served as counsel for Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He earned a unique place in the legal profession as defender of all those who were wronged by power. The former president prayed for eternal rest of Lakho’s soul and for the family of the lawyer who bear an unparalleled loss.
