The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) on Tuesday sacked over 32 ghost employees hired on daily wages. The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the RWMC Asim Ayub has paced up the measures to eliminate irregularities in the department after declaring biometric attendance compulsory for all employees. 37 sanitary workers were found ghost employees who were receiving salaries from RWMC and were not performing their duties; 32 of them are fired from the service while five have rejoined their duty, sources said. While talking exclusively with Daily Times, Asim Ayub said that “we are planning to form public committees to improve the performance of the company and also to make sure the attendance and performance of the field workers”. These committees will comprise of the nonpolitical social activists and local elders, who will give us suggestions, ideas, and feedback for the betterment of the company, he maintained. The RWMC is also planning to introduce Pakistan State Oil (PSO) fuel credit card system for the fuel refilling in the company vehicles to make sure the transparency in the transport matters of the company”, he explained. Answering a question regarding shifting of Garbage transfer station near Liaquat Bagh, he said, there is no plan to shift garbage transfer station from Liaquat Bagh however, we are taking measure to control the smell emitting from the station, Asim Ayub told Daily Times. The CEO RWMC said that citizens need to extend cooperation to improve cleanliness condition besides putting forward suggestions in this connection, adding that cleanliness of the city was not possible without the cooperation of the citizens and joint efforts were need to make the city clean.
