Pregnant women are at an increased risk of miscarrying if they are exposed to elevated levels of a type of air pollution, a study suggests. Researchers in the US found a 16% increase in the risk of miscarriage among women exposed to higher levels of nitrogen dioxide, a gas created by petrol and diesel vehicles. The findings were described as “upsetting” by one of the doctors who led the study at the University of Utah. Published in Daily Times, January 13th 2019.
