Lahore-based ice cream maker Faiza is the force behind Mr N’s Creamery and has surfaced off late with what she calls are “premium homemade ice creams”. “I named it after the first initial of my son who is an ice cream lover. My son was a key driving force in getting me to turn my passion for ice cream into a business,” the entrepreneur says, while talking exclusively to Daily Times. One distinguishing factor of this newest ice cream to have hit the town is how it is free from freezer burns, comes across more like frozen yoghurt but once you taste it, it instantly dissolves in your mouth while giving the essence of the rich flavour of what’s been put inside it. Nutella and Butter Pecan Brittle are our favourites out of all the ones she has made under Mr N’s Creamery’s name so far. The Butter Pecan Brittle consists of freshly-sourced butter from a local dairy with brittle pecans “People have a lot of choice in ice creams from popular brands to expensive imported varieties. I started making ice cream because I miss the premium ice creams that I loved to eat whenever I was travelling abroad. My interest took me to Pennsylvania State University where I learned the art and science of making premium ice creams from Professor Bob Roberts. So I feel that the ice creams I make are in a niche category of premium ice cream. I do not like sticking to standard flavours, so I’m constantly trying new combinations. That is a big attraction for ice cream lovers who are looking for something unique,” she says. But, I like to experiment and that really works for the business. My latest favourite flavour is Butter Pecan Brittle but I’m already working on some really interesting new ideas,” she tells us. These ice creams can be customised according to one’s preference and choice of flavour. This, we believe, is a first for any Pakistani dessert start-up. “Any good artist has to be in love with their work. For me, it’s not just important to make ice cream to my taste but also to the taste of my clients. Before launching any new flavour, I go through a lot of testing with friends and clients. I am always happy to get client feedback, because even negative feedback is valuable if you want to keep producing to high standards,” Faiza says. The minimum quantity of one ice cream pack is one litre, which costs Rs 2,000. “I use natural ingredients, so if its pistachio, I will roast and grind my own pistachios paste. The same goes for all other flavours. With prices continuously going up, it’s challenging to maintain the existing selling prices. Most ice cream brands that you see in the market are just flavours instead of real ingredients which gives them a very good margin. I enjoy ice cream and can’t think of having anything that has artificial flavours in it. So I make ice cream with all natural ingredients,” Faiza explains. Some of the other flavours which are worth trying out are Mint with Chocolate, Maple Walnut, Rocky Road, Salted Caramel Crunch and Cinnamon Oat among several others. We’re excited to try out Lemon Cream and Choco-Nut next. Home delivery is available. Published in Daily Times, January 5th 2019.
