LONDON: Britain’s former heavyweight world champion David Haye joined forces with American promoter Richard Schaefer on Friday launching his own promotion company and threatening to send ‘shockwaves’ through British boxing. The 36-year-old – who is still active and will take on compatriot Tony Bellew in a non-title bout in March – enters an already crowded and cut throat field but backed by vastly-experienced Schaefer. The Swiss-born former banker accrued plenty of experience having co-founded with US boxing great Oscar del la Hoya in 2002 Golden Boy promotion and largely thanks to his business acumen turning it into a huge success till he left in 2014. Legendary American pugilist Floyd Mayweather stated that had it not been for Schaefer he would not have used Golden Boy.
