ISLAMABAD: On the application of the university administration, police has registered a first information report against the responsible for a brawl and ariel firing at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology (FUUAST). Deputy Registrar of the campus, Muhammad Aleem, lodged a complaint in black and white with Aabpara Police Station in which he named some students including Danish Khan, Raja Sohail Sajjad, Humayun Azam, Waleed Qureshi, Muhammad Khalid, Asad and some other anonymous persons. But the police did not make any arrest so far. The applicant said in his application that the five persons along with other unknown persons opened firing at the students and university security guards with the intention of murder. The accused belong to two student groups namely MSF and Pakhtun Student Federation and have been considered responsible for a brawl at the university. Sources told this scribe that the university administration was reluctant to take legal action against the accused but when the other students complained and protested against the notorious activities of the accused on regular basis resulting in closure of the campus and suspension of classes, the administration was left with no other option except to lodge the FIR. According to the police, the bone of contention was the incident of eve teasing of a female student by some of her fellows which turned into a massive scuffle after the involvement of students groups formed on ethnic and political basis. Investigation officer (IO) of the case, ASI Zahoor Ahmad, told Daily Times that they had raided the campus to arrest the accused but failed to get any clue of them as the campus administration did not provide any record of the accused necessary to trace them out. “The university administration has said that the accused are not the regular students but alumni of the university. We are searching their profiles to find their addresses and other information which will help the police in arresting them,” the IO said. Tuesday’s brawl spread fear and panic at the campus. At that time every person present in the campus was terrified due to the aerial firing. Students of the university said while talking to Daily Times that this was not the first incident of its kind, a brawl had been also taken place at the university last week in which a large number of fire guns were used by the members of students groups causing a closure of the university for several days. “We request the campus administration and the police to arrest and take strict action against the accused. We also request the concerned authorities to demobilise the students groups formed on ethnic and political basis which cause serious damages to our studies by disturbing the campus environment,” they added.
