Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa Friday confirmed the death sentences awarded to 11 hardcore terrorists, who were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). “On the whole, the convicted terrorists were involved in killing of 26 persons including a civilian and 25 armed forces, Frontier Constabulary and police officials besides injuring 22 others. Arms and explosives were also seized from their possession. The convicts were tried by special military courts,” the ISPR said. Another 22 convicts were awarded imprisonment. Anwar Salam was member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attack on the armed forces personnel, which resulted in death of Major Zia ul Haq, Subedar Ali Asghar, Havildar Afzal, Havildar Bashir and Lance Naik Anwaiz. He was also involved in kidnapping of Lieutenant Colonel (r) Khaqan Afzal for ransom. He was awarded death sentence. Irfan ul Haq was member of a banned organisation. He was involved in abetting terrorist commander Mufti Meraj ud Din in kidnapping of Captain Najam Riaz Raja and Captain Junaid Khan along with two soldiers, who were later slaughtered by the terrorists. He was also found in possession of explosives. He was awarded death sentence. Sahib Zada was member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking LEAs, which resulted in death of Naib Subedar Hanif along with four soldiers, a civilian and injuries to eight others. He was also involved in destruction of Government Primary School Langar (Swat). Moreover, he was found in possession of firearms/explosives. He was awarded death sentence. Nadir Khan, Izat Khan and Imtiaz Ahmed were members of a proscribed organisation. They were involved in attacking armed forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of a junior commissioned officer along with two soldiers and injuries to two others. They were also found in possession of firearms and explosives. They were awarded death sentence. Ameer Zeb and Badshah Iraq were members of a proscribed organization. They were involved in attacking LEAS, which resulted in death of three soldiers and injuries to nine others. They were also found in possession of firearms and explosives. They were awarded death sentence. Izhar Ahmed was member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking law enforcement agencies, which resulted in death of Constable Ayub Khan and Constable Islam Gul. He was also found in possession of explosives. He was awarded death sentence. Akbar Ali was member of a proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking armed forces men, which resulted in death of Sepoy Asif Mehmood and injuries to an officer along with two soldiers. He was also found in possession of explosives. He was awarded death sentence. Imran was member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking law enforcement agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of a soldier.
